Igor Manko

Igor Manko (1962, Poltava) – Kharkiv photographer, curator. Got interested in photography back in the early childhood, thanks to his father, who was a photo amateur. Practices art photography since 1982, after having moved to Kharkiv. In 1984 became a amember of Contacts photographic group (renamed to Gosprom in 1987). As most of the authors of the collective, shared interest in documenting mundane, eventless fragments of reality, aiming to equal all elements of composition. However, the photographer often transformed the shots using toning, which added a certain level of metaphysicality and accentuated contemplativeness. Since the late 1990s involved in curatorial activity, organizing photographic exhibitions, including virtual ones. Chief curator of VASA Project platform (vasaproject.com), participant of Ukrainian Photographic Alternative union. As a linguist, heads the language centre International House, which also serves as a venue for the various cultural events in the city.
