About the artist

The mortification of Cerebrus

Yaroslav Solop (born 1979, Sokyriany, Chernivtsi Oblast, Ukraine) — artist, curator, researcher of photography, manager of cultural projects, author of research materials and publications on art, resides and works in Kyiv, Ukraine. Graduated from the faculty of design of the Lviv National Academy of Arts (Lviv, Ukraine) and FotoDepartament institute (Saint-Petersburg, Russia), where in 2012 wrote the qualification work “Theory and practice of the contemporary photography 2000-s – 2010-s”.

Received “Photographer of the Year — 2014” award in “Art-photography” category. Since 2017 has been a coordinator of the UPHA association (Ukrainian Photographic Alternative). Implements a wide range of medias in his practice, including graphics. Applies staged shooting, digital photomontage in his photographic projects. Created several photographic series, namely We (2006-2010), The Plastic Mythology (2011-2016), The Cold War (2016 – ongoing), The Last Haven (2017 – ongoing).

Since 2016 has been the ideologist and researcher of the archive of contemporary photographic heritage for the UkrainianPhotoFoundation (UPF) (Kyiv, Ukraine). In 2017-2021 — ideologist, chief editor of the UPHA MADE IN UKRAINE book (the first anthology of the contemporary Ukrainian photography, which embraces the period between 1980-s – 2020s, BOOKSHA publishing, 2021). Co-founder and chief editor of BOOKSHA publishing. Co-founder, curator of the art projects of the creative studio Ōagency.
