Sergey Bratkov

Сергій Братков

Sergey Bratkov (1960, Kharkiv) — multimedia artist, curator. Representative of Kharkiv school of photography. Studied at Kharkiv art school after I. Repin (1968-1978), however consequently received engineering training at the faculty of electrical engineering at Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute (today — National Technical University “Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute”) in 1978-1983. Didn’t give up art, trying himself in photography, graphics and painting at the same time. First photographic series Cherry garden was taken in 1983. In the late 1980s beame the member of Gosprom group, and in 1988 joined “Litera A” art group, where was mainly present as a painter. This fact brightly illustrates the author’s creative method, who attempts to combine various media in his art — from sculpture (freezing photographs in the blocks of ice or turning them into lollipops) to performance (as a member of the “Fast Reaction Group). In the early 1990s opened Up/Down gallery of contemporary art in Kharkiv. In the 2000s moved to Moscow, where currently resides. Professor of Rodchenko Moscow School of Photography and Multimedia, master of “Photography, sculpture, video” class.
